Matted coats

Regular brushing at home is very important, start gently with very young puppies to get them used to being brushed, do it gently, use treats if you want. 

Unfortunately many dogs have a long coat which the owners brush but have not realised that the coat is matted underneath and they have been brushing over the matts, it is important to check over the coat with a comb as well to get right to the skin.
If a dog comes in that is very matted then the only kind thing to do is to clip them short .

Clippers cannot go through a coat unless it is clean and matt free, if a matted area cannot be brushed out easily, then the clippers will have to go under the matts, and the length of coat left will depend on how close to the skin the matts are.
The coat will soon grow again, and with regular visits combined with home grooming  you can maintain a lovely coat on your dog.
